Manchester United’s lack of possession vs Manchester City

On Sky Sports yesterday, Jamie Carragher was absolutely right when he said Manchester United play “underdog football” after our 3–0 drubbing to Manchester City.

I know that possession isn’t everything, but every time we play City, it’s always us on the back foot, it’s always us trapped in our own half, and it’s always us relying on the counter.

You have to go back eight years ago for the last time we out-possessed them. In the previous 21 encounters, we’ve averaged just 37% possession.

We are supposed to be one of the biggest clubs in the world, yet we’re worse than a National League side in a third-round FA Cup tie playing one of the big boys.

As Gary Neville said, it’s clear things have not been well run on and off the field, and we’re stuck in a rut we can’t get out of.

Pathetic.
