New Default Office Font
Calibri has been the default Office font for 15 years, but that is about to change.
Microsoft announced over a year ago it was time for a successor. They commissioned five new fonts:
- Bierstadt
- Grandview
- Seaford
- Skeena
- Tenorite
These are already available to use if you have Microsoft 365. However, only one of them will claim special status.
Surprisingly, I can’t find any news about a decision, despite considerable time having passed.
On 28th April 2021, Microsoft stated on their blog:
“We’ll be evaluating these five directions over the next few months, but we won’t be doing that alone. All five families are now available via the cloud across your favorite Microsoft 365 apps and experiences. Go use the fonts starting today, and show us which you love best with feedback and comments on social.”
Addictive Tips also mentioned: “The font that emerges winner will be made the default Word font come Q2 2022.”
Here we are — still waiting. Not sure what the hold-up is, but it would be nice to hear from Microsoft about this.
Anyway, which font do you think should be the new default?
Personally, I’m drawn to Bierstadt and Grandview because it’s actually possible to distinguish between an ‘I’ (uppercase ‘i’) and an ‘l’ (lowercase ‘L’). Seaford is okay as well, but I’m not so keen on Skeena and Tenorite.
