Get ready for the emergency alert
At 15:00 BST today (23/04/23), an emergency alert will blare out from every phone across the UK as part of a government test.
The system intends to inform the public of life-threatening emergencies like severe flooding, fires, or extreme weather conditions.
You’ll see and hear the 10-second warning if your 4G or 5G-capable device meets the following criteria:
- You have an iPhone running iOS 14.5 or later.
- You have a phone or tablet running Android 11 or later.
If you’ve still got that brick-like Nokia 3310 lying about — you won’t get an alert.
However, it’s estimated that 90% of phones in the country are compatible, and having them on silent will not prevent the alert from sounding.
It’ll be an interesting experience for those attending the Newcastle v Bournemouth Premier League match at 52,000-capacity St James’ Park. 😳🚨🔈
Who knows what the decibel level will get up to? 😬
Let’s see how it goes…
