Will celebrities flock to Bluesky?
Amid the pain and anguish of multi-millionaire celebrities relinquishing their blue ticks by refusing to pay the $8-per-month Twitter tax (or an eyewatering $11.92 if they’re from the UK), many are already gravitating to alternative social arenas.
And not just direct copycats, either. The rise of decentralised platforms promises to be an interesting development.
These networks have no central authority or company presiding over them, giving users greater control over their data and content.
Many already exist, such as Mastodon, Diaspora, and Steemit, but there’s another…
Former Twitter head honcho Jack Dorsey started working on Bluesky in 2019 as a side project backed by the Big Tech company, although its affiliation ended in 2021.
It is currently invitation-only but predictably has many Twitter-like features. However, with only around 25,000 users currently, it’s going to take a while to get going.
Once the dust has settled, will these A-list crybabies give in and join Twitter Blue, or will they swiftly move on to Bluesky or one of the others?
It’ll be intriguing to see what happens.
