Andrew Moss named in ‘Worth a follow’ by Microsoft MVP

Earlier today, I caught up with the latest episode of Unpivot.
Host Wyn Hopkins introduced a new feature called ‘Worth a follow’, and I was delighted to be Mark Proctor‘s choice. He said I’m one of his “favourite social media writers”.
Giles Male also chimed in, saying I’ve been a “good collaborative whinger”! 😄
It’s true I’ve done some rather “nerdy” posts over the years on matters relating to pixels, positioning, and inconsistency.
Here are three:
- Has Microsoft noticed the UI inconsistency between Excel and Power BI?
- Button positioning in Excel — why the inconsistency?
- Excel’s border problem
I guess there’s a certain amount of satisfaction I get from noticing the things you’re not supposed to notice. But these little things add up and contribute to the overall user experience, even if you don’t realise it.
However, the biggest thing to irk many of you is the order of the decimal buttons. Just think how much time you’ve spent over the years clicking on Decrease Decimal when you meant Increase Decimal!
Nevertheless, Unpivot is always worth a watch, so be sure to check it out:

I also want to introduce a new feature, which is Who’s worth a follow?
So, anybody whose posts you may have seen in the last week — are they worth a follow?

Anybody else got a shout-out this week, or save it for next week?
Mark
Well, just in general — someone to follow… I’m going to say Andrew Moss.
He’s a regular writer on LinkedIn, and he’s probably one of my favourite… I’m going to say social media writers, because to my knowledge he’s never written a book.
But equally I like his content, I like his pace, I like the topics he picks up.
I mean, some of it gets quite nerdy, right?
He will literally be there going, Have you noticed this icon has three additional pixels, but this icon, which should be the same — doesn’t.
And you’re like, I didn’t know that!
So yeah, he’s deep. But equally, in the user interface, he picks up things which I’ve never even noticed and then goes, Why is there this inconsistency here?
And I’m like, I don’t know, I’ve never even noticed it, but there’s lots of things that he picks up.
So yeah, Andrew Moss.
I don’t always agree with everything he says, which is one of the best things, right? When you can follow somebody, you say, I don’t agree with everything he says, but that’s great. I can learn from him.
Giles
He’s been a good collaborative whinger with me in the past.
Normally if he sees I’ve commented on something whinging, he’s straight in afterwards.
He’s like Yeah, let’s go! Whinge.
Love it!
